Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about our transparent, merit-based touring philosophy in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia.

What does pay-what-you-wish actually mean?

Our tours are completely tip-based, meaning you do not pay a fixed fee to book or join the walk. You experience the full 2.5-hour guided history walk first, and at the end, you decide the value of the experience based on your enjoyment, budget, and Richard's presentation.

What is the typical tip amount per guest?

Around the world, and here in Victoria, typical tips for guided walking tours range from $20 to $40 per person. That said, the exact amount is entirely up to you and your personal evaluation of the tour.

Why do you use this model instead of upfront ticket sales?

We prefer a merit-based approach. It keeps our tours accessible to all visitors while giving Richard the opportunity to earn your support through exceptional storytelling, local insights, and engaging service. If you love the tour, you can reward Richard accordingly.

What payment methods are accepted at the end?

Cash in Canadian dollars is preferred and easiest at the end of the walk. However, if you do not carry cash, contactless tap and Interac e-Transfer (EMT) are readily available upon request.

Do I still need to reserve my spot online in advance?

Yes, booking in advance is the best option. It helps Richard prepare ahead of time, maintain comfortable group sizes, and ensure any specific accessibility accommodations are ready for your arrival.

What happens if I need to cancel or rebook my tour?

Cancelling or rebooking is simple and hassle-free. Just send a quick email to let Richard know, and we will happily adjust your booking without any cancellation penalties or fees.
